He’s an artist who takes his influence from his hometown in Tokyo and his time in Vancouver. But what really drives Taka Sudo is meeting new people.

A self-taught artist, Taka began his artistic life as a child, spending his time sketching. After attending law school for a short period and realizing that he wasn’t at all passionate about the topic, Taka transferred into film studies, creating films on canvas versus storyboards.

Fifteen years ago he made the move from Tokyo to Whistler to further pursue his love for skiing and has remained in BC ever since.

You’ll find elements of both Tokyo and BC present in Taka’s work, with abstract elements and organic shapes coming together to create unique pieces of art. Taka loves to work with many canvases, including gallery images people can take home, like the ones found at our shop, as well as city murals for all to enjoy.

Each piece that Taka completes has strong energy to it, blurring the lines between reality and abstraction. What adventure do you see in your favourite piece of his?
