5 Date Night Ideas During Covid

So this summer isn’t what we expected. No music festivals, no cozying up inside candlelit restaurants, no dancing the night away at the club. This year we have to be a little bit more creative when it comes to creating memorable nights out so that’s why we wanted to give you our top ideas for date nights in Vancouver that you can plan during COVID.

First off, be sure to head on into visit us at El Barbero for a fresh cut (and then take credit for these great date ideas and surprise your partner)! Trust us…. They will be very impressed.

  1. Outdoor movie night

Rent a projector and set up a surprise outdoor movie theatre in your backyard. Get big cushions and comfy throw blankets so you can snuggle in for the night. Social distancing with your partner? Create two comfy movie seats 2 meters apart. Make sure to prepare all your favourite movie theatre treats by buying the extra butter popcorn and a pack of M&M’s. PS - try them together for melted chocolate goodness.

  2. Kayak or paddle board

Head down to the waterfront and rent a kayak or a paddle board for a relaxing evening watching the sunset in English Bay. Worried about staying dry? Consider investing in a blow up boat (approx $150 from Canadian Tire) that will give you more stability and can be used for many more memorable date nights to come. Tip: Bring a disposable or waterproof camera so your partner can remember the experience (and how romantic you were to plan it)!

  3. Sunset picnic

Pick up some decadent cheeses and meats and then take advantage of the take away wine being offered at restaurants and plan a romantic waterfront picnic. Our favourite spot? Grab a bottle of pinot gris for $18 at Mahoney and Son’s curbside kiosk at False Creek and then stroll the seawall down to the park to set up for a relaxing evening watching the world go by.

  4. Indoor Camping

Weren’t able to get a reservation at a BC campground this year? Join the crowd! Well actually… avoid the crowd and surprise your partner with an indoor camping experience. Set up your tent in your living room, make a traditional campfire meal (smokies anyone?) and cuddle in for the night in your cozy bed on the floor. Don’t have a tent? Try making a fort instead!

  5. Bike pub crawl

Grab your bikes and tour Vancouver’s booming brewery scene. From Strathcona to Mount Pleasant, cool breweries are popping up everywhere. Plan a tasting tour and get some exercise while you’re at it. Worried about biking and drinking? Try renting a Shaw To Go bike so you can ride around until you feel you have reached your limit and then you can Uber home (with a mask on of course!).

Hope this gave you some good ideas to make the most of this Vancouver summer! See you at the shop.
